Osteopathy is the science of human mechanics. By using a highly developed sense of touch, a diagnosis of mechanical and structural problems affecting the body can be made and a treatment plan suited for each individual patient formed.  We have patients of all ages, from newborns through to the elderly and work towards relieving pain, increasing mobility and improving the quality of life for our patients without resorting to drugs and surgery.

Osteopathy for Babies

Many people think that babies are too young to have any stresses and strains in their body but birth is one of the most stressful events of our lives. As the baby turns and twists along the birth canal propelled forward by the contractions above and held back by the natural resistance of the birth canal itself, it is subjected to enormous forces. As a result the baby often has strains in the body and if these strains remain unresolved, may lead to an unsettled or fussy baby.

Our Osteopaths have received training in Cranial Osteopathic techniques and have experience and understanding of treating young people of all ages from newborn, through the early years and in to childhood.

Osteopathy for Mums-to-be

Pregnancy can be a wonderful time but for many it can be a painful one as your body undergoes postural and chemical changes to accommodate the growing baby. Ensuring your tissues are free of unnecessary tensions and strains may lead to an easier and more comfortable pregnancy.

Pregnancy is a very physical experience. Your body has to slowly adapt to carrying up to 20lb of baby, waters and placenta whilst directing its resources to your growing baby. This change can put enormous strain on your tissues and organs leading to an array of aches and pains.

An osteopathic examination before pregnancy or during the early stages may help identify any physical limitations for which osteopathy may be able to help with.

Like the baby within, every mother is unique and each expectant mother comes to us with different ailments. Osteopathic treatment may be able to help with many common pregnancy-related complaints so please e-mail or telephone us and we would be happy to discuss this with you.

Third Trimester Check

To allow your baby to pass through the birth canal, the pelvis naturally expands. However, if there are any mechanical restrictions in the pelvis or spine this might prevent it opening as efficiently during labour. We hope that by identifying and working through any structural restrictions within your body tissues will increase the likelihood of you experiencing an uncomplicated delivery.

Post-natal Check

After the birth, we recommend both mother and baby return to see an Osteopath for a check-up and if necessary, for treatment. We will work with you to help regain your strength and flexibility and check and correct any strains in your body, primarily in the spine and pelvis.
