Ultrasound for Gynaecology

In gynaecology; ultrasound has been used for years to diagnose different conditions and in particular since the introduction of the trans-vaginal ultrasound scan in the late eighties.

Ultrasound is used every day to diagnose causes of heavy periods and therefore allows for the provision of successful treatment.  Gynaecological ultrasound can also be used to find out causes of infertility and diagnose polycystic ovaries.

Checking the uterus for fibroids or endometrial polyps and the ovaries for ovarian cysts can easily be performed using ultrasound.  Gynaecological ultrasound can also be used to check fallopian tube patency and thereby avoiding the use of x-ray and giving instant results.  Other gynaecological tumours can be diagnosed using trans-vaginal ultrasound.
