Successful open day for Carmenta Health

Dr Joseph Iskaros and Mrs Cathy Johnson celebrated the opening of their new pregnancy, ultrasound and wellbeing centre, called Carmenta Life, on Saturday 29 January 2011 with many visitors local to Berkhamsted and the surrounding areas.

The new centre, which will offer traditional medical practices in harmony with complementary therapies, providing parenting support such as active birth and antenatal classes, hypnobirthing courses and baby massage, was very well received with good attendance by the local community.

One area attracting lots of attention was the centre’s unique drop-in breastfeeding café where new mothers will be able to gain practical advice and support from qualified lactation consultants.  Cathy Johnson, a qualified lactation consultant and owner of an already established local business, Womb to Bloom, said of the breastfeeding café, “this project has been a long-term goal of mine.  Breastfeeding, especially for new mothers, can be such a nerve-wracking experience and I’m delighted to be able to help and offer this free service”.  The café will be run by Cathy and Julie, Joseph’s wife, also a lactation consultant and will be open on Thursdays between 1pm and 3pm.

Responsibility for Carmenta Life’s ultrasound scanning services lies with Dr Joseph Iskaros, a London consultant, “Ultrasound imaging has been used in women’s healthcare for decades and we will offer breast scans as well as those for pregnancy and gynecology.  Ultrasound is a simple and non-invasive test.”  The new centre will go one step further offering 3D and moving 4D imaging via the very latest in 21st century technology, making it possible for expectant parents to have an insight into their baby’s own world inside the womb.

The centre’s facilities include a range of therapy/consultancy rooms and a large studio catering for a range of exercises classes such as relax, stretch and breathe, and yoga for pregnancy, and adult Hatha yoga.  Complementary therapies will include: aromatherapy massage, reflexology, osteopathy, physiotherapy, nutritional therapy and weight loss programmes.
