C-section MOT at Carmenta Life

Because a C-section is major abdominal surgery — and it deserves to be treated that way

A C-section involves multiple layers of tissue — skin, fascia, muscle, uterus — each healing in its own way and on its own timeline. What happens at the scar can influence the pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, posture and movement, often in ways that aren’t immediately obvious and don’t always resolve without support.

The C-section MOT is a specialist postnatal assessment designed specifically for women who have undergone a C-section. At Carmenta Life it is delivered by Antonietta D’Angelo — a women’s health osteopath with a Diploma in Women’s Health Osteopathy from the Molinari Institute, a certified Mummy MOT practitioner and Scar Therapist. That combination means the assessment sits within a broader osteopathic picture — scar findings are considered alongside pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, posture and the whole structural picture underneath.

What the assessment covers

  • Full case history — your pregnancy, birth, surgery and recovery
  • Postural screen and structural assessment
  • Pelvic floor assessment
  • Abdominal muscle assessment including diastasis recti
  • Scar assessment — tissue quality, sensation, mobility and the structures around it
  • Screening for bladder, bowel and musculoskeletal concerns

Not all scars are the same. A fine-line scar, a hypertrophic scar and a keloid scar all behave differently — and the approach that helps one can aggravate another. Assessment always comes before any hands-on scar work.

What makes this different

Antonietta is a women’s health osteopath and certified Scar Therapist — she looks at the whole structural picture, not just the scar itself. The overhang that many women notice above or below the scar, the pulling sensation, the numbness, the feeling that something isn’t quite connected — these are all worth looking at in the context of the wider musculoskeletal picture, not in isolation.

Where appropriate, she can incorporate osteopathic treatment and scar therapy within the same appointment. At Berkhamsted she also offers photobiomodulation — red light laser therapy — as part of scar recovery, at no additional cost and with no separate booking needed.

It is never too late to have a C-section MOT. Women come to us weeks after surgery and years later. The body holds patterns for a long time, and understanding what may be contributing is always a worthwhile starting point.
